Wix, an Israeli online creation service with 210 million users globally, has joined with bitcoin payment processor BitPay, according to an Oct. 12 news release.Its eCommerce site now accepts a variety of cryptocurrencies, including meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin.
The new functionality will be phased in over time. At the moment, cryptocurrencies are accepted in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Brazil.
According to Wix's Omer Shatzky, the partnership may enable businesses to attract new cryptocurrency-friendly customers:
Wix businesses now have access to a new market of consumers who want to pay in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, as well as a way for their company to participate in the expanding cryptocurrency industry.
Wix temporarily became Israel's largest business in February, with a market capitalization of more than $20 billion. However, its shares are down 27.48 percent year to date.
